Empower Yourself: A Step-by-Step Guide on How to Change a Tire

As drivers, we can't predict when a flat tire will strike, but we can be prepared to tackle the situation head-on. At Genesis Autoworks, we believe in empowering drivers with essential skills, and learning how to change a tire is one of them.

Why Learn to Change a Tire?

Imagine you're in the middle of a journey, and suddenly, you hear that unmistakable flapping sound – a flat tire. Knowing how to change it not only saves you time and money but also provides a sense of self-sufficiency on the road.

Step-by-Step Guide: Changing a Tire Like a Pro

1. Find a Safe Location:

  • Pull over to a safe and level spot away from traffic.
  • Engage your hazard lights.

2. Gather Tools and Materials:

  • Spare tire
  • Jack
  • Lug wrench
  • Vehicle owner's manual

3. Loosen Lug Nuts:

  • Use the lug wrench to loosen the lug nuts, but don't remove them completely. You want to "crack" them so they can be removed easily once the car is safely in the air.

4. Position the Jack:

  • Consult your owner's manual to locate the proper jacking points.
  • Lift the vehicle using the jack until the flat tire is off the ground.

5. Remove the Flat Tire:

  • Finish removing the loosened lug nuts.
  • Carefully take off the flat tire and place it aside.

6. Mount the Spare Tire:

  • Line up the holes in the spare tire with the wheel bolts.
  • Push the spare tire onto the wheel bolts.

7. Tighten Lug Nuts:

  • Tighten the lug nuts as much as possible, without shaking the car to much.
  • Lower the vehicle with the jack and then tighten the lug nuts with the wrench.

8. Double-Check Everything:

  • Ensure all lug nuts are tightened properly.
  • Stow away the flat tire, tools, and jack.

9. Check Tire Pressure:

  • Confirm the spare tire has adequate pressure.

10. Visit a Professional:

- While changing a tire is a valuable skill, it's advisable to visit a professional to assess and repair or replace the flat tire.
